Dr. PVD Somasekhar Rao obtained his B.E. Degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Sri Venkateshwara University College of Engineering, Tirupati and M.Tech. Degree in Microwave and Radar Engineering from IIT, Kharagpur. He earned his Ph.D. Degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from IIT, Kharagpur. Dr. Rao worked at Radar Centre, IIT, Kharagpur, and Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR / RAC Group), Ooty. Later, he joined the Faculty of ECE Department of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Colleges of Engineering at Anantapur and Hyderabad. He occupied the positions of – Head of ECE Department, Director, UGC – Academic Staff College, and Director – School of Information Technology and R& D Cell, at JNT University, Hyderabad. Presently, he is the Board of Studies Chair for ECE Department and is the Director I/c, Academics and Planning Unit of JNTUH.

Dr. Rao has more than 28 years of Teaching / R&D / Industry experience, and has 38 technical publications to his credit. He successfully organized more than 30 Short Term Courses and Programmes under the aegis of ISTE / UGC/JNTU. He is a Senior Member of IEEE (USA), Life Member of ISTE (India), and Fellow of IETE (India). He was also nominated for the Membership of New York Academy of Sciences. Dr. Rao also acted as the Research Coordinator, at JNTU Hyderabad, and worked as Visiting Professor at Broadband Telecommunication Lab, Bangkok, Thailand.

He also acted as Member on the Boards of Studies for ECE Department at Osmania University, Sri Venkateswara University, Acharya Nagarjuna University, GITAM College of Engineering, VR Siddhartha Engineering College and JNTU. He was the Executive Committee Member of IEEE – Hyderabad Section, and a successful Branch Counselor of IEEE Student Branch, at JNTU College of Engineering, Hyderabad, for 12 years. Dr. Rao is the recipient of Outstanding IEEE Branch Counselor / Advisor Award of USA.
